It makes sense how it works better, it isolates them but also rehabilitates them so they most likely won't do it again in the future instead of basically treating them like animals

There is a whole difference in society. Norway can operate with such prison systems because of the severity of crimes and the number of prisoners. America can’t because of the sheer number of prisoners, let alone the extreme numbers of violent offenders.

  7. Spxdel

One Norwegian prisons don’t have to deal with gang violence on the level the us does and do the way the 20% of Norwegians makes it sound like you’re talking about the overall population not just the ones who have previously been arrested if that’s actually how they worded it in the paper then they’re 100% playing word games

Im happy to see that the system works. And trust me, I love Norway, such an open-minded and succesful country with good citizens and succesful school systems. But, even tho their Prison System is succesful, I find it bothering to think that somebody who raped/killed somebody would get such comfortable surroundings. If I'm not wrong they're also treated by psychologist and the maximum sentence is 20 years, but the time can be expended based on the behaviour of the individual. I still find it bothering thinking that somebody who could've killed my mother/girlfriend.. could end up in such nice environment. All the love from Romania, Norway! 🇹🇩🤍🇳🇴

    8 小时 前

This is a great idea but with the huge population of the us I don’t think this would work or as well because they would have to build much better facility’s so that would be much for expensive and if prison life is improved by that much to we’re it’s similar to normal life crime might go up because offenders might not be as worried for the sentence

  35. FancyButterKnife

    8 小时 前

He is wrong in some US prisons you can wear normal clothes and sometimes have a tv also not all working prisoners are slaves some of them do it so they can have less jail time it’s a choice

  36. _Loony_Luna_

    8 小时 前

But then there's no punishment for the crimes?? Isn't that the whole point of prison??

    • A-Ying

      7 小时 前

The whole point of prison is supposed to be reforming people for when they get out of prison so they don’t commit more crimes, right? How I see it, the punishment is having to serve a sentence and get those years of their lives taken away from them. Sure, what a lot of these people who committed crimes did is fucked up, but locking people up like animals isn’t going to help them change their ways for after the fact, you know?

My aunt is in a women's prison in Abbotsford BC, and they have little houses with roommates there. They also have events and you can invite your family to join in. They get to do arts and crafts with yarn and other things, and they get to cook their own meals in the kitchen. There's also visiting hours where you go into a room with card games, board games, and even vending machines and just hang out with your friends or family. They even let you schedule a few days to stay in your family members cabin so you can stay there and just hang out, which is something I'd really love to do. The system they have there is really cool in my opinion :)
